Geert Ridderbos has been playing, together with his younger brother Bert, songs from the Torf album Kovvie kloar, since he was sixteen. In 1991, Geert was asked to play the accordion and flute for Torf. Geert has studied school music and piano at the conservatorium of Groningen and works at a secondary school as a music teacher.
Besides playing with Torf, Geert will occasionally perform solo or sometimes form a duo with his brother Bert. Geert has moved a couple of years ago from the peat-colonies to another part of the Groninger countryside where he lives in a small workers home. Geert dislikes a lot of things, especially bagpipes and guitars, which can sometimes be the cause of difficulties within the band.
